Catena Zapata Birth of Cabernet 2021

It all began with a group of bees attracted by the nectar offered by a vineyard. Without realizing it, they carried pollen from Cabernet Franc flowers to Sauvignon Blanc flowers. This is how a new shoot began to develop in the mother grapes. Years later, the winegrower returned to his vineyard, abandoned during the war, and tasted the grapes from this new vine, falling completely in love. Those grapes turned out to be Cabernet Sauvignon.

The allegory of grape varieties as animals offers an unusual interpretation of the story. The fox, Cabernet Franc, has attributes of Cardinal Richelieu, the first famous lover of the grape. The mermaid, half woman and half bird, represents Sauvignon Blanc in all its wild splendour. On the right, her son, Cabernet Sauvignon, is depicted as a world traveller, venturing from the French Pyrenees to the Catena Zapata pyramid at the foot of the Andes mountain range in Argentina.
