Matervini Piedras Viejas Terrazas Malbec 2022 is a single-vineyard Malbec from Matervini, the winery founded by winemakers Santiago Achával and Roberto Cipresso. It comes from Piedras Viejas, planted on the steep Pre-Cordillera slopes of El Challao, Las Heras, due west of downtown Mendoza at 1,585 meters (5,200 feet), one of the most extreme vineyards in the world. Terrazas is a bottling of two vineyard blocks whose soil is mostly lutite, a black sedimentary rock, with intrusions of limestone; these blocks only began producing seven years after planting.
