Description
Polígonos Paraje Altamira Malbec is a pure expression of the unique terroir of IG Paraje Altamira, San Carlos, in the southern part of the Uco Valley, Mendoza. Part of the Polígonos del Valle de Uco project by Zuccardi, this wine seeks to capture the identity of specific villages and landscapes of the Andes through their soils, climate, and viticultural traditions.
The vineyards are located at approximately 1,100 meters (3,609 ft) above sea level, on the alluvial plain south of the Tunuyán River. This area sits at the highest section of the alluvial fan and is known for its cool temperate climate and significant thermal amplitude between day and night.
The soils are particularly distinctive, characterized by large conglomerates of stones and granite gravel covered with calcareous material, with some rocks reaching weights of up to 20 tons. These conditions contribute to wines with remarkable structure, minerality, and freshness.
The 2023 vintage was warm and very dry, providing excellent health and quality in the grapes. Lower yields, influenced by frost during the spring of 2022, resulted in a more concentrated expression of the vineyard. Careful vineyard management allowed precise harvest timing for each plot, always seeking freshness, terroir expression, and balance.
Fermented with native yeasts in concrete vessels and aged in concrete, the wine preserves its purity of fruit and place. The result is a wine of great transparency, vibrant acidity, and impressive aromatic complexity.
