Altos Las Hormigas Appellation Gualtallary Malbec 2022 is a fresh and remarkably mineral expression of high-altitude Malbec, sourced entirely from sandy-loam soils situated at 1,400 meters above sea level in Gualtallary. Crafted with carefully selected grapes that are gravity-fed into small concrete tanks, this wine undergoes a meticulous aging process where two-thirds rest in unlined concrete tanks and the remaining third in un-toasted 3,500-liter French oak foudres for 15 months, followed by an additional 10 months of bottle aging.
"Carmine red in color with brilliant violet reflections, the nose is highly distinctive and reductive, initially presenting notes of gunpowder, graphite, and cherry. As it breathes in the glass, it slowly unfolds complex layers of jasmine, violets, cassis, rosehip, blueberry, sour cherry, and jarilla flower. On the palate, it expresses itself as a 'sand wine' with a very marked frontal texture, chalky notes, and a long finish highlighted by a hint of blueberries."
