Description
Score: 91 pts Tim Atkin
The 2021 vintage was named Best White Wine for Value by Tim Atkin in his Argentina Special Report 2022.
In this new release of Altos Las Hormigas Blanco Blend, the winery incorporates Pedro Giménez, Argentina’s most widely planted white Criolla grape, adding identity and complexity to the blend.
Pale silvery yellow in color with greenish highlights, the wine shows high aromatic intensity on the nose, with notes of peach, pineapple, and a hint of grapefruit. Pedro Giménez contributes additional aromatic layers, including subtle herbal notes.
On the palate, the entry is fresh and vibrant, supported by a well-balanced acidity that provides tension and structure—the backbone of the wine. The flavor profile is concentrated and fruit-driven, the result of working with stems and skins during fermentation.
This is an ideal wine to enjoy as a characterful aperitif or to pair with white meats, light sauces, and ocean or river fish.
Each variety was vinified separately using different techniques: part of the blend followed traditional vinification, while other portions fermented with skins and up to 30% whole clusters. All components fermented with native yeasts in concrete tanks, where malolactic fermentation also took place. The wine was aged 6 months in concrete vats, with no oak influence.
